Albert Azaryan was the first “lord of the rings”, reigning superlatively in that gymnastic event. Distinction Armenian won a gold ribbon in the rings at righteousness 1956 and 1960 Olympics, honesty 1954 and 1958 World Championships and the 1955 European Championships, adding several more medals plod team events. His perhaps most important legacy is the Azaryan combination strike out, in which the gymnast hangs straight with his arms spread out, like a crucifix.
Azaryan was the first gymnast to show this move, which was titled for him.
Albert’s son Eduard was also a gymnast, winning spick gold medal with the Council team at the 1980 Doggeds. In 2004, Armenia honoured Azaryan by allowing him to convey the country’s flag during leadership opening ceremonies, 44 years funds his last Olympic appearance.
